MAKE sure all the essentials, including Mickey ears, Minnie bows and a fine singing voice gave been packed as this year’s Disney on Ice is taking audiences on a global adventure.
Disney On Ice Road Trip Adventures brings together everyone’s favourite characters and locations combined with stunning ice skating pops of pyrotechnics, a splash of acrobatics and of course a sprinkling of Disney magic for two hours of pure joy.
This time around the show was interactive as the MCs called on lucky children, and their families, to fill the rink with bubbles, get up close with the characters as they took to the ice and become part of the scrapbook that was shown throughout the show on the big screens.
The first stop Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy make is London where Mary Poppins, along with her band of chimney sweeps set the standard for the rest of the show.
Alongside the spectacular skating there’s aerial acrobatics from our favourite nanny and bmx bikers take to the ice and left the crowds wowed with their daring stunts.
From there the adventure jets off across to every corner to say hello to one and all including, Moana, The Incredibles – including JackJack, Woody and the Gang in Toy Story four, and to Elsa and Anna in Arendelle.
The bar was set very high for the Frozen segment prior to the show by the Elsa-mad crew.
As the snow began to fall all I could was hold my breath and hope it lived up to expectation – as I am fully aware of the wrath that can come if something isn’t quite right, like sandwiches being cut into squares not triangles.
As Olaf shared his dreams about wanting to enjoy the summer I was able to relax as the smiles spread and by the time Elsa took to the ice for her iconic song sheer joy could be seen.
However, when deciding the favourite part there was stiff competition from the Princess’ rendition of Girl Power.
For me the highlight of the show was the Lion King, as the animals of the savanna took to the ice there was something which suggested this was going to be special.
The all-in-one puppetry and skating skills on show was fantastic as the flamingos and cheetahs hit the ice – add to that aerial skills from the monkeys it just added to the occasion.
And just when audiences thought it couldn’t be topped there was a beautiful duet with lifts, jumps and turns as Simba and Narla’s love story blossomed.
The finale saw all the favourites return to the ice one final time as the road trip came to end.
