FORD FIESTA ST EDITION – 1.5T ECOBOOST S/S – 200PS, 6SP

Motoring review by Tony Yates

AS A young boy, I used to spend most of my weekends watching Bodie & Doyle strut their stuff on TV, whilst also watching them messing about doing handbrake turns and smoking the tyres around the streets of London in their Ford Escort RS2000.

Of course, as we get older – we know it was all made up and none of that stuff really happens, but that didn’t stop me wanting to be just like those two guys on TV back then. What a life eh! – racing around in performance cars chasing all the bad guys for a living. Wonderful!

This of course neatly gears me up for this week’s review of the latest version of the Ford Fiesta ST Edition.

Power and Efficiency:

The Fiesta ST I have on test is powered by a 1.5 litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine which has 290Nm of torque and 200PS of Ford Power.

You also get a very nice 0 to 62 time of around 6.5 seconds and a top speed of around144mph.

If you are interested in the MPG – then it will easily achieve 40+MPG (combined)

From the moment you press the Ford Power start button – that little 1.5T fires into action and you get something that sounds like a rock band playing right under your nose.

Take it from me; it is the most wonderful noise you can hear bellowing from those wonderful Ford exhaust pipes – and if you keep the rev range in the high figures – it makes you smile a lot too. How wonderful!

On the Road:

As with all of Ford’s hot hatches – it changes direction like it’s on rails and it holds the road like nothing on earth with those super sticky tyres.

Plus, to be honest – I’m more interested in telling you how much fun it is to drive and how well it handles the twisty stuff. Which is epic truth be told.

Plus, Ford has stiffened up the suspension – which helps improve the ride without the need for back surgery every time you go for a ‘spirited’ drive.

That’s the thing with most hot hatches – they are either as solid as a rock – or as soft as rice pudding – well I am happy to report that Ford got it perfect – meaning much fun can be had in the Fiesta ST Edition.

Safety and Technology:

The Fiesta ST is not short on equipment either and it starts with; 18” 10 spoke Flow Formed High Gloss Black Alloy Wheels, Unique ST Front Grille in High Gloss Black, Unique ST Rear, bumper w/ diffusor in High Gloss Black, Unique ST badging with High Gloss Black detailing, Unique High Gloss Black roof with matching roof spoiler, Unique High Gloss Black powerfold mirrors with “ST” projection puddle lamps, Red Brake Calipers, Ford Performance scuff plates, Ford Performance Adjustable Coilover Suspension, Ford Performance Steering, Wheel (w/ Bespoke Blue Stitching) providing direct access to Sport Drive Mode, 3 selectable drive modes Normal, Sport, Track accessed via the steering wheel, LED projector headlamps (low beam) with LED daytime running lights, LED Night Signature to rear lights, Driver assistance features: 4.2” TFT instrument cluster screen and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Plus; Auto, High Beam & Driver Alert, Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC), B&O In-car Audio Premium Sound System with Ford SYNC 3 Navigation System and FordPass Connect., Navigation System Includes 8” touchscreen and 10 speakers for 360° sound, Trip Computer, Ford KeyFree System with Keyless Entry & Keyless Start (with Motion Sensing Key Fob) Rearview camera with rear parking sensors, Recaro leather sports front seats with Bespoke Blue Stitching, Heated front seats & heated steering wheel and the Ford Performance Pack – which includes; Qualife Limited Slip Differential, Launch Control, Performance Shift Indicators.

To Sum Up:

Epic – and I want one. If I was looking for a hot hatch right about now – then the Fiesta ST Edition makes perfect sense. Buy it now!
