Classical twist: Free Timelapse digital concert takes orchestra to new heights

Solihull Editorial 24th Apr, 2021   0

IN A new free to stream digital concert to be released this Monday, April 26, the Orchestra of the Swan perform Timelapse 2.0, taking inspiration from the Swan’s latest album Timelapse, which itself has been streamed more than two times since its release in January.

The new digital concert intertwines music by Bach, Rameau (arr. David Gordon), Couperin, Trish Clowes and the Swan’s own David Le Page, and will be available as a free stream.

In Timelapse, sounds of the past and present collide to form a unique musical landscape where notions of time and style become irrelevant, performed in bespoke orchestral arrangements by the Swan’s Artistic Director David Le Page.

Timelapse 2.0 showcases works from the medieval 14th-century street music of La Rotta to Radiohead’s modern-day masterpiece Pyramid Song.

The orchestra perform Trysting Fields from Michael Nyman’s soundtrack to the 1988 film Drowning by Numbers, based entirely on Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E flat, and Grieg’s From Holberg’s Time, which recalls 18th Century dances in a programme enclosed by the haunting aria from Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

Timelapse 2.0 draws inspiration from the Swan’s Timelapse recording, named Album of the Week by Classic FM & Scala Radio.

Timelapse 2.0 is the latest digital concert from the Swan’s straight-to-streaming Night Owl digital concert series, taking audiences to ethereal worlds in innovative late-night sets.

Following their success with Timelapse on disc, Orchestra of the Swan returned to the studio in April to record Labyrinths, a new album to be released on Signum in November 2021.

Labyrinths draws together diverse repertoire from medieval street music to contemporary compositions by Nico Muhly, Jessie Montgomery and David Le Page, joined by soloists Nicky Spence, Trish Clowes, Guy Schalom and Jim Moray.
