A 12-week old guinea pig has been found dumped in Coventry while an animal welfare charity has issued a warning to pet owners.
A shop worker made the discovery in Deedmore Road, Coventry, last Friday (February 8) and initially thought the box was just rubbish and was about to put in the bin.
Luckily he looked inside and saw the poor abandoned pet inside sat on some damp straw.
He alerted the RSPCA and inspector Nicola Johnson was called to investigate.
She said: “Fortunately the shop worker noticed the little guinea pig who is around 12 weeks old and because of the box he was found in I called him Crispin.
“He appears to be unharmed and is now in the care of the RSPCA branch in Walsall where he will remain until he can be re-homed.
“I do not know what people think they are doing when they leave animals in situations like this.
“If you take on an animal it is trusting you to look after them.
“If people can’t commit to offering an animal a lifetime of care and love then I would suggest that they just don’t have one in the first place.”
Inspector Johnson wants anyone who knows who dumped the guinea pig to get in touch on the RSPCA appeals line number 0300 123 8018.
