DOZENS of budding Paralympic stars tried out a range of activities at the Solihull Gets Active Games hosted by Tudor Grange Leisure Centre.

Hosted by Lord Mayor of Solihull, Coun Mike Robinson, the event saw 91 people living with disabilities try their hand at a variety of activities including tennis, archery and cycling.

With the aim of promoting active lifestyles for adults with disabilities, the event helped introduce many people to the variety of sports available in Solihull.

Guests enjoyed dance performances by Learning Curves and Bhangra Burnoff as part of the opening ceremony, in addition to a speech by Coun Robinson.

The day was organised by Solihull Active in partnership with local day centres, Parkwood Community Leisure, Bromford Housing, Solihull Community Housing and brain injury charity Headway as well as other disability organisations.

Lord Mayor Mike Robinson said: “It was fantastic to meet so many people who were enjoying a variety of activities, some of which they hadn’t tried before.

“This event and many others organised by Solihull Active offer great opportunities for people living with disabilities to enjoy active lifestyles.

“I would urge anybody living with a disability, or their carers and relatives, to get involved.”
