WEIGHTLIFTING: A NUMBER of the country’s top powerlifters will be competing at Central Fitness Gym in Sheldon this Sunday to earn a place at the Global Powerlifting Committee (GPC) British finals.
The competition is run by one of the world’s strongest lifters Lee Marshall – a multi-time European and World Powerlifting Champion, World Record Holder, and Worldwide President of the GPC.
Along with his team at Central Fitness, Lee will be welcoming over 40 lifters and has promised a great atmosphere and some huge weights.
He said: “We will have a good mix of both first time and experienced athletes at this competition.
“These athletes have been training and preparing for this event for many months and they will all be chasing qualifying totals for national and international events.
Lifters who meet the British qualifying standard will guarantee themselves a place on the platform at the finals in Manchester in November.
Those meeting the ‘A’ standard will be invited to represent GPC-GB at the European Championships in Poland and the World Finals in Czech Republic later in the year.
The GPC-GB was formed in 2008 by Lee to accommodate British lifters who wanted to compete in international competitions. There are now lifters from 34 countries taking part and it is one of the fastest growing federations in the world.
The GPC-GB team has had great success at the GPC European and World Championships with many individual and team titles in both raw and equipped categories.
