RUNNING: LONG distance star Anthony Dean is continuing to flourish in his later years after completing two half marathon events and securing a top ten finish in both.

The Shirley resident finished eighth in the Birmingham Half Marathon back in October after crossing the finish line in 1:51.52, which placed him eighth in the over-65 category.

And just over a month later the 69-year-old was back in action again as he took part in the scenic Conwy Half Marathon in North Wales.

The race, which begins and finishes at Conwy Quay, is widely regarded as one of the most scenic in the UK and takes in spectacular views of the Great Orme and Deganwy, Snowdonia and the Conwy Estuary as well as Conwy Castle.

Dean, who took up running when he was 25, found the opening four-mile terrain difficult to tackle but he eventually found his pace to finish in 1:53.15 which placed him fifth in the over-65 field.

“I really enjoyed it and some of the views were brilliant,” said Dean.

“It’s one of the top five half marathons for its scenic views but it was a tough race.”

Dean will now enjoy a hard-earned rest over Christmas and begin preparing for the 2017 half marathon season, with events in Chester, Stratford and Birmingham all taking his fancy.
