Thousands take part in rugby bonanza

RUGBY UNION: SOLIHULL School has played host to more than 1,700 rugby players aged from 12 to 18, as they hosted one of the country’s biggest Sevens tournaments.

The school’s annual rugby competition was held at both the school’s own pitches and at the Old Silhillians Association, with an incredible 251 matches played, totalling almost 59 hours of rugby.

With 35 schools from across the country taking part, talented youngsters competed in tournaments from under-13 level up to under-18.

RGS High Wycombe proved their pedigree with victories at both under-18 and under-15 level, while Aberdare Community School, from Wales, took the honours in the under-14 competition.

The host school performed admirably with both under-15 and under-13 sides progressing to the knock-out phases, while the under-18s’ 2nd VII progress was compromised with the 1st XV playing in a NatWest Plate semi-final on the same day.
