Taekwon Do stars win six gold medals at ETA Rose Cup

Solihull Editorial 10th Nov, 2016   0

MEMBERS of Solihull-based Taekwon Do club ITF Fusion have had more than one reason to celebrate recently after four students travelled to London to compete in the ETA Rose Cup where they won six gold medals.

Reuben Williams, a third degree black belt, Taylor Smith (Red Belt), Jack Smith (Red tag) and Ty Thomas (Blue tag) all won gold medals in their respective grades.

The students clearly decided one medal was not enough and continued their winning streak in Sparring with Reuben and Taylor taking gold, while Ty won silver and Jack won bronze. ITF Fusion also won the trophy for ETA Rose Cup Overall Winner 2016.

In addition to this, at the beginning of October five of the club’s members travelled to Budapest in Hungary to represent England Taekwon Do Association at the sixth ITF World Cup – the largest Taekwon Do championships held with over 2000 competitors from 58 countries.

The three seniors, Wayne Burns, Reuben and Miles Crook along with the two Juniors, Taylor and Jack, took part throughout the four-day tournament, competing in Patterns, Sparring, Special Technique, Power or Breaking.

Some of the seniors beat their personal bests and the juniors had an incredible experience at their first World Cup.

Jack even managed to get as far as the quarter-finals, finishing in the top eight of his group for Patterns, and Taylor was just one round behind – a remarkable achievement considering their individual groups consisted of 100+ competitors.

All students train under the guidance of Wayne Burns, a fourth degree black belt who is current coach to the England team, and as well as teaching the martial art of Taekwon Do his club promotes self defence, confidence, discipline and fitness for all ages and ability.
