GOLF: PROFESSIONAL golfer Daanyal Spalding starred at the PGA EuroPro Tour when shooting a hole in one during the latest tournament.
Representing Four Ashes Golf Centre, the Solihull resident proved 13 isn’t unlucky for some as his seven iron strike on the 13th hole at Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire landed straight on the green and rolled into the hole, much to his delight.
He finished that round on level par, and then carded a two-under on the second and final day of the IFX Championship to finish two under overall for the tournament – which lost a day to heavy rain.
The tournament was won by Hugo Dobson of Kent, who finished with a combined 12 under par.
This is only Daanyal’s second tournament back after injury, and he said he is now starting to shape well and feel confident in his game.
He said: “I’m really pleased with the way it went this week, and feel I’m making good progress with every tournament.
“I’m definitely looking at a tournament win at some stage of the season, and I’ll be practising hard between events, and giving it my all to give myself a chance of achieving that.
“The hole in one was a big thrill – it was with my seven iron, and it’s lovely when it happens.
“Unfortunately the TV cameras only cover the last day’s play, so I missed my chance for a bit of glory.”
