Solihull Blossomfield set to unveil new £30,000 practice nets

CRICKET: THE NEW state-of-the-art practice nets at Solihull Blossomfield Cricket Club will officially be unveiled on March 21.

The Mayor of Solihull, councillor Mike Robinson, will be guest of honour at the grand opening of the nets which cost £30,000 largely funded thanks to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Other funding came from Birmingham International Airport’s Community Fund and the modest shortfall is being mopped up by an imminent Gift Aided appeal and other fund-raising activities at the Widney Road club.

“We are looking for support for this project so we can continue to invest in the development in both our ground and the considerable junior talent at Blossomfield,” said club chairman Paul Law.

“We are delighted to have these new nets, which greatly improve our practice facilities for the benefit of all our members, seniors, boys and girls.

“The ground is already one of the best in the area and our Boys and Girls Sections are flourishing, with good representation at county and district levels.

“We are always looking for improvement and plan to increase our coaching work in schools to help introduce more youngsters to this wonderful game.”

2016 was a most successful year for Solihull Blossomfield with two of its three senior teams being promoted, with the first team going up as champions into Division One of the Warwickshire Cricket League.

Club Captain, Ben Seifas, added: “Our 1st XI performed consistently well last season to secure promotion but we are looking to build on that success throughout the club with continued focus on the development of individuals.

“This applies particularly to our younger cricketers who are progressing well and making an increasing contribution to our performances on the field.

“We are totally committed, at Blossomfield, to developing our young talent and giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their ability in senior cricket at the optimum level.”
