Solihull Blossomfield see lead cut after Nether Whitacre defeat

SOLIHULL Blossomfield’s lead at the top of Warwickshire League Division 2 has been reduced to 16 points following a disappointing winning draw at home to Nether Whitacre.

The visitors won the toss and asked Bloss to bat first on a perfect batting strip & opener Richard Weaver (46) took the attack to the bowlers alongside Naveed Bashir who scored his third century of the season, his 115 runs coming at better than a run a ball.

Despite the platform from the openers, the following batsmen failed to score with so much ease which meant a declaration wasn’t possible. Nick Patel (29) was the only other batsmen to make a contribution of note and Bloss finished up on 262-8 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Nether Whitacre gifted the home side an early wicket with a calamitous run out in the second over of their innings. A pacy opening spell from Nathan Myers (2-44) saw the visitors with their back against the wall at 70-4 with more than 30 overs remaining.

However, captain Matthew Lawrence (75*) & Ian Breeze (64*) batted remarkably well. They had the answers for everything the table-toppers threw at them and were able to bat through the innings to secure a well earned draw for their side.

Next up for Blossomfield is a trip to Corley on Saturday.
