HOCKEY: SOLIHULL Blossomfield Ladies finished runners-up in the Midland League Division Two after beating Belper Ladies 3-0 away from home in what was a thrilling encounter on Saturday.

The visitors started strongly against a competitive Belper side and despite high pressing by the hosts, Blossomfield controlled the pace and passing.

Movement off the ball created a number of chances in the first half, and the first goal came courtesy of a short corner routine involving Emily Terrazas-Cruz with Sam Yarnold finding the back of the net.

Bloss’s second came from a Denise Fountain pass which found Jenny Parkes in the forward line. Jenny pulled off a fantastic solo effort driving into the area, dragging the keeper right and rifling past her into the left corner.

Bloss were in no mood for a Belper revival in the second half and the hosts backed off the attacking visitors.

Despite a lot of play, and Bloss dominating possession, they could only add one more to the score line.

The tenacity and speed of Sam Yarnold prevented the ball going off the back line in attacking play, and she managed to take the keeper and two defenders out of the game before finding Amelia Thompson who calmly slotted the ball into an empty net.

The result remained 3-0 to Bloss to confirm second place in the league.
