ICE HOCKEY: REVENGE was on the cards as Solihull Barons lost out 3-2 away at Sutton Sting just one week after winning the reverse fixture.
Following last weekend’s narrow victory, it was a reversal of fortunes for the Barons on their visit to Ice Sheffield with the points once more going with home advantage.
Indeed it was the hosts who registered the first goal of the game as Lloyd Gibson and Charles Thompson combined to open the scoring in the 12th minute.
Despite a somewhat depleted squad on show, the Barons battled back to square things up. Rich Slater exploited the gaps around the Sting’s impressive netminder Dimitri Zimozdra to see the sides head to the dressing rooms after the first period all even.
By the middle of the second period, the Barons had eked out a narrow lead. Niklas Ottosson, returning to the Barons squad after a few games away, found normal scoring partner Tom Soar to give the Barons their second goal of the night.
The visitors were however fully exploited by the home side as Sting netted first an equaliser and then the game-winning goal within minutes of each other.
The Barons frantically chased an equaliser in the final period and they out-shot their opponents two-to-one, exchanging their keeper for a forward player late on, but the hosts defended everything that was thrown at them
The Barons face another weekend of no games before they return to action on November 20 away at league leaders Solway Sharks.
