Silhillians just one game away from dream Tickenham date

RUGBY UNION: SILHILLIANS are just one win away from a trip to the home of English rugby, as they prepare to take on West Leeds in the RFU Intermediate Cup National Semi-Final at Silhillians Sports Club on Easter Saturday.

The Copt Heath outfit have already achieved silverware this season, having beaten Rugby Lions in the Midlands Final of the same competition to secure a date with North winners West Leeds, who won the National Senior Vase last season.

Whilst Leeds are looking for their second consecutive trip to Twickenham, Sils are looking to emulate the Class of ’99, who last graced the hallowed turf in maroon and blue in the Tetleys Cup Final 18 years ago.

It has been a dramatic cup journey for Sils, who eased through the early rounds with victories over Market Harborough, Stourbridge Lions and Tamworth.

A trip to league rivals Spartans followed, and in an epic encounter requiring extra time, Sils scraped through as the away side. A two-month wait for the Midlands Final couldn’t lessen the drama, as Sils overcame league leaders Rugby Lions, who had already beaten them home and away this season.

There is plenty planned at Silhillians Sports Club on Easter Saturday. Dubbed as the ‘Sils Easter Egg Chase’, the main event will be accompanied by a BBQ and live music, as well as entertainment for the kids including an Easter egg hunt.

Silhillians Sports Club is located at Copt Heath, between Solihull and Knowle, adjacent to M42 Junction 5. Kick-off is at 3pm.
