BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees ended the year with an impressive 39-0 bonus point win against Stoke Old Boys.

Bees player Liam Dunne marked his 150th appearance for the club with a try while Ollie Sanderson, Calum Antonio, Ryan Sleaford, Cole Elleman, Lewis Holsey and Will Heath all dotted down at Portway.

And the result means Solihull sit ninth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table.

The Bees handed a start to Sanderson for the first time this season while Heath and Elleman both returned from injury.

Former Colt Holsey also returned to the club following spells with London Scottish, Coventry, Worcester Warriors, Bedford Blues and Hartpury University.

Solihull started brightly and scored the game’s first try on 15 minutes as Heath kicked a penalty deep into Stoke territory as Sanderson touched down to score his first try after a year away from the resulting lineout.

The Bees struck again just past the half-hour mark when Garrett’s quick tap and go allowed Antonio to crash over the line.

And the home side scored their third try on the stroke of half time as Sleaford dotted down following a break from Cormach Papirnik with Heath adding the extras.

Solihull picked up where they left off after the break as Elleman crossed for a simple try to secure a bonus point with Heath again converting.

And Dunne then crowned his 150th appearance for the Bees with a try as he produced a fine dummy to crash over.

Stoke lost a player to the sin-bin just past the hour mark as Holsey marked his debut with a try after good work from Cameron May.

The visitors finished the game with 14 players due to injuries as Heath scored the game’s final try with a chip and chase.

Birmingham and Solihull Bees are next in action against Coalville on Saturday, January 4 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Portway.
