A MIXED pre-season schedule came to disappointing end for Solihull Barons after they fell to a 4-1 defeat at home to rivals Telford NL Tigers on Sunday.

The first period saw both teams having their fair share of opportunities, but in reality neither side were able to develop any real spells of pressure with the bulk of the period spent in stick clashing battles either side of the blue lines.

The deadlock was however finally broken in the 16th minute by Baron’s Joe Henry who was picked out on central ice by Richard Crowe and collected the puck before rounding the Tigers defence and scoring what proved to be the only goal of the first period.

It took just a few minutes before the Tigers got themselves back on level terms when Adam Taylor fired home from the right-hand circle.

Half-way through the second period the hosts went down to three players following a series of soft penalties and the Tigers took full advantage by taking the lead courtesy of Callum Griffin.

The Tigers extended their lead further five minutes into the final period through Ben Washburn whose shot rattled off the underside of the crossbar and was eventually awarded by the officials.

And two minutes later the visitors scored the final goal of the game when Callum Bowley added a fourth to give Telford a comfortable win.

The Barons will be looking to bounce back when they get their league campaign underway this Sunday with a home clash against Whitley Warriors (6pm face-off).
