FOOTBALL: EARLSWOOD suffered penalty shootout heartache at the weekend after they lost out to fellow Midland League Division Two side Coton Green in the second round of the Birmingham Intermediate Vase competition.
A game of very few chances ended goalless on Saturday and when it came down to spot kicks, it was Coton Green who held their nerve wi win 4-1 in penalties.
The visitors came closest to finding an opening in the first half after hitting the woodwork, while the home side could have gone in front after the break.
After forcing a string of corners, a long range effort went through the visiting keeper’s hands but the ball was cleared off the line.
With the game at a stalemate, it went down to penalties and the visitors converted their chances well scoring four to Earl’s one to advance into the next round.
This weekend Earlswood return to league duty when they host Barnt Green Spartak as they look to move off the bottom of the table.
