INSPIRED by the heroics of Great Britain’s female gold medalists in Rio, Solihull Blossomfield ladies kicked off their 2016/17 Midlands League campaign with a 3-1 victory over Stone Ladies.
Bloss soon got into the swing of the new season with a new-look team and they went ahead with a somewhat controversial goal to go into the break 1-0 in front.
Tactically Bloss raised their game in the second half and superb play from defence saw Nat Abel link with Kate Digby in the centre before the ball was moved to Denise Fountain in the forward line in three swift moves. Denise passed an inch perfect ball to Alisha Lewis who clinically slotted the ball passed the useful Stone keeper.
Stone’s persistence and pressure paid off as they scored to close the gap mid way through the second half. However, the result was never in doubt as Bloss reasserted themselves and another team goal, confidently scored by Amelia Thompson for her brace, saw Bloss 3-1 winners.
Bloss take a trip north on the M1 next week as they are away to Boots.
