OLTON & West Warwickshire booked their place in the next round of the England Hockey Cup with an 8-3 victory over University of Birmingham.

Dan Sulway (4), Tom Brammer (2), Tim Idione and Chris Rawlings bagged the goals for Olton, who will now make the trip to Beeston in the next round on December 2.

Victory in the cup followed Saturday’s narrow 5-4 defeat to Chichester in Conference West.

Chichester started the brighter and took the lead with a goal from open play in the 14th minute.

Olton got into the game and Steve Batten equalised after 27 minutes.

On the stroke of half-time the home side regained the lead from a penalty corner.

Olton came out fighting and within eight minutes had scored two goals to give them the lead, with Batten and Rawlings finding the back of the net.

The lead lasted six minutes before Olton were pulled back.

Chichester then plundered two goals in two minutes before five minutes later Olton made it 5-4 with a drag flick from Peter Jackson.

Despite a frantic last few minutes, Olton could not score the equaliser.

Meanwhile, Olton’s Ladies edged out Gloucester 3-2 in Conference West to end their unbeaten record.

The game started brightly and Olton took the lead in the fifth minute from a penalty corner scored by Sally Walton.

It took another 18 minutes for the visitors to equalise through a goal from open play.

The score at the break was 1-1 and the game was finely balanced.

Olton eased ahead in the 39th minute with a Walton goal before the visitors drew level again nine minutes later.

Walton completed her hat-trick in the 53rd minute, leaving a frantic 17 minutes of even play.

Olton hung on to their lead and pocketed the three points to leave them top of the division, level on points and goal difference with Stourport.
