Olton are back on track

OLTON & West Warwickshire got back to winning ways in Conference West with a 2-0 home victory over Team Bath Buccaneers.

In a tight first half, Bath had the best chance to take a 1-0 lead into the break but skipper Alex Edmonstone was on hand to clear off his line from a penalty corner.

Two minutes into the second period player-coach Peter Jackson gave Olton the lead from a penalty corner.

The game continued to be played at a fast pace with neither side really capitalising and again Bath were unlucky to see a goalbound shot cleared off the line, this time by Ross Mulligan.

Just past the hour mark Olton doubled their lead with Oliver Mason tapping in from close range.

Olton closed out the remaining nine minutes to secure the win which kept them in third place.

The Ladies were held to a 2-2 draw by bottom-of-the-table Oxford Hawks.

Oxford opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a tap-in at the near post.

Olton remained competitive with some good sections of hockey but a lack of communication and poor marking allowed the hosts to storm into a 2-0 lead seconds before half-time.

After the interval, Olton came out the better side and reduced the arrears in the 42nd minute when a good break led by Kate Brough allowed Sade Gerald to feed Alice Conquest who cleverly chipped the ball over the Hawks keeper for 2-1.

The remainder of the game was very intense and emotions were high as Olton ended the game with a penalty corner awarded in the 70th minute.

Jenny Pritchard got the ball past the keeper on the base line to ensure the spoils were shared.

Olton dropped down to second in Conference West but remain unbeaten.
