New Zealand international Worker makes Knowle & Dorridge switch

CRICKET: NEW Zealand international all-rounder George Worker will be playing his cricket in Solihull this season after Knowle & Dorridge pulled off a massive coup by landing his signature.

The 27-year-old, who is contracted by Cricket New Zealand, plays first class cricket for the Central Districts and has represented his country in both one day international and T20 formats.

Worker is a left-handed opening batsman who is known for his ability to clear the rope and he is also a very handy left arm spinner. He has a first class high score of 210 and has played over 150 first class matches.

“I am delighted to have George on board for this season, he is exactly the character we needed to complement our strong squad,” said Knowle & Dorridge captain Sam Reddish.

“His experience playing at the highest level shall no doubt be priceless for us and I can’t wait to get the season started.”

Worker will represent Knowle & Dorridge in the Birmingham Premier League and he will also work with the club’s junior section too.

He said: “I’m really excited at the opportunity to come over and play for a club like Knowle & Dorridge. I’ve heard nothing but good things, and I hope I can contribute to helping the club win the league.”

David Smith, Knowle and Dorridge’s director of cricket, further outlined: “George is a major signing and the club has also been working even harder over the winter to recruit fresh talent to the club.

“Our philosophy as a club is to always ensure that our junior players have clear pathways through junior cricket into senior cricket and hopefully to first team and beyond.”

“The club will always provide the opportunities for junior players to play senior cricket and we will be actively encouraging our juniors to be part of this.”

The club have also secured another major signing, with the addition of Warwickshire all-rounder Atteq Javid. Attiq brings huge experience to the club and was key to Warwickshire’s success in the Royal London Trophy victory against Surrey in September.

Sam Reddish continues as first team captain with Knowle & Dorridge who finished fourth in the Birmingham Premier League last season and they also won the Birmingham T20 Trophy.
