HOCKEY: HAMPTON-in-Arden ladies are preparing for one of the biggest games of their lives when they take on Edgbaston in their final game of the season this Saturday knowing a win or draw will see them crowned champions of the Warwickshire League Division One.

A thumping 7-1 victory over Long Buckby keeps Hampton top of the league on goal difference ahead of second-placed Edgbaston which sets up a thrilling end to the season this weekend.

The penultimate game of the season saw Hampton Ladies travel to Long Buckby, knowing that a loss would dent their chances of promotion.

Within three minutes Emma Maslen slotted home the first goal of the match with a smart finish after a strong run down the wing by Lois Burton.

Five minutes later Maslen turned provider by crossing for Erin Killaspy to slam home a second and it was 3-0 only minutes later when a superb individual skill from Naomi Ennis saw her ghost past multiple defenders and cross for Killaspy, who again slotted home from close range.

Long Buckby pulled a goal back before half-time but following a stern half-time team talk by coach Oli Ward, Hampton returned from the break determined to add to their scoreline.

The fourth goal came yet again from Maslen who, with her own individual skill, was able to take on the goalie and score.

Harriet Thompson bagged a fifth goal before Maslen completed her hat-trick with a fierce strike from the top of the corner before captain Lauren Boon who completed the rout with a goal from a penalty corner.
