THE NEW year was greeted by the biggest turnout of runners at a Centurion Running Club grand prix for many years with a total of 154 runners taking part in the five-mile event.
Horrendous conditions greeted runners on Sunday with torrential rain, flood paths and strong winds causing runners problems, but the weather failed to put off those in attendance.
The event at Babbs Mill Lake and Park was part of a six month series of races on the first Sunday of every month commencing in November 2015.
Support mostly at the start and marshal points was enthusiastic and on such an awful day highly appreciated by all the runners.
There were some great performances on the day despite the conditions with Thomas Beasley of Birchfield Harriers winning the race in 26 minutes and 56 seconds.
Jonathan Carter was second over the line in 28 minutes and four seconds and Thomas Foulerton (Leamington Athletic Club) finished third in 28.20.
The next race takes place on February 7. For entry details and more information about Centurion Running Club visit www.centurions.org.uk.
