Knowle & Dorridge Racquets Club celebrating hat-trick of successes

KNOWLE & Dorridge Racquets Club are celebrating the recent success of defending the Warwickshire Men’s Veterans League Division 1 title for a third year in a row.

The Warwickshire Men’s Veterans League is contested by players aged 45 and over, which the club won in 2018/19 after winning all but one of the 14 ties played over the season, dropping just 14 sets in that time.

Incidentally, the only match they lost all season was to the runners-up Beechwood Lawn Tennis Club on the opening day of the season – going down 3-1 in rubbers.

Finishing top of the pile after taking on the likes of Solihull Blossomfield Tennis Club, Nuneaton Lawn Tennis Club and Edgbaston Priory Club, the club have replicated their previous feat of a hat-trick of successes between 2009 and 2012.

It has left representatives of the club’s A team, property professionals James Shelley from Wakemans, and Alistair Clark of AC Lloyd Homes, also the club captain, delighted by 2018/19’s success.

Shelley spoke of the achievement fondly, and said: “It’s been a very exciting challenge, playing matches against some fine opponents, and we’re delighted to run out as champions of Division 1 once again.”

Clark meanwhile reflected on the superiority that the club is beginning to build over other teams in the division.

“This is a great result, which highlights the fact that there’s real strength in depth at Knowle & Dorridge Racquets Club and reinforces our achievements over the past couple of years.”
