FOOTBALL: FORMER Aston Villa and Norwich City striker John Deehan has joined Solihull Moors’ academy coaching staff and will work alongside Under-19 manager Ryan Byrne.

The Solihull-born coach, who was a member of the Aston Villa team that won the 1977 League Cup, has previously worked as a manager at Wigan where he guided them from Division Three to Division Two.

He also worked under Steve Bruce at both Sheffield United and Huddersfield before being appointed assistant manager to John Gregory in July 2001 at Villa.

Deehan has rarely been out of the game in more recent years, teaming up with Stuart Gray early in 2014 at Sheffield Wednesday.

On joining Moors Deehan links back up with coach Keith Bertschin who was his strike partner at Norwich City and he is also close friends with academy manager Mark Fogarty.

“I know John well – he has worked for me before and we also went to the same school back in the day,” said Bertschin.

“He will add valuable experience particularly in match situations and work as a Mentor across the Coaching age groups alongside myself and the other staff.”
