CRICKET: AN INTERNATIONAL cricketing star was welcomed to the borough this weekend as Marston Green CC hosted a special guest on Saturday morning.

Legendary Indian batsman Virender Sehwag swapped the familiar scenes of Lords, the MCG, and Cape Town for Marston Green CC to shoot a commercial film.

The 38-year-old, who represented India in more than 100 test matches and 250 ODIs, donned the traditional cricket whites for the shoot on the Marston Green pitch – which currently hosts Warwickshire League Division Three fixtures.

The club were contacted at the last minute as an Indian biscuit manufacturer that decided they wanted to make an advert with Sehwag at short notice.

A club spokesman said: “We were only too happy to help Virender and Tim Willcocks – the production manager – out.

“They seemed to enjoy themselves and were very complimentary with regards to the ground, which is testament to the work that our groundsman Nikki Meek puts in every week.”
