HOCKEY: BLOSSOMFIELD Ladies continued their winning streak with a 5-1 home victory against Stone.
The hosts started strongly and opened the scoring first with a Nicky Horton goal through a short corner routine.
The second half saw significantly more action as Bloss dominated play and soon doubled their lead through Denise Fountain.
The hosts scored a third through a terrific long ball into the D which found Ellen Bleumer before Stone pulled a goal back during open play.
Bloss reasserted their dominance – Charlotte Ellis scored from a great angle and Bloss scored their fifth through an effective Luci Dawson and Nicky Horton combination from another short corner routine.
Bloss closed the gap on the top three in the league and travel to Towcester in a key clash on Saturday.
YARDLEY’S awful run of form hit another low point on Saturday, losing 5-0 to Wolverhampton.
Wolves established an early two-goal lead as Yardley struggled to make any meaningful progress.
As usual, the visitors were indebted to their keeper who was forced into making several double saves to keep the score down.
However, he as powerless to prevent two further goals before the break.
With the game already lost, Yardley appeared to find their feet in the second half – enjoying lengthy periods of possession and applying pressure on the hosts.
Key interceptions from DJ Bryan in midfield and good link-up play between skipper Zach Jarvis, Jeevan Chagger and Noor Zaman offered much greater threat to a Wolverhampton team, somewhat taken aback with Yardley’s new-found energy.
A goal was a little too much to ask for though, as Wolves ended the match with a simple tap-in from close range.
