Highgate United preparing for new 2016/17 season

Solihull Editorial 21st Jul, 2016 Updated: 21st Oct, 2016   0

IT LOOKS set to be a case of ‘as you were’ for Highgate Town for the 2016/17 campaign with the majority of the squad from last season sticking around for another year.

Bosses Ashley Pulisciano and Lee Adams have been working hard over the summer to assemble a squad capable of competing for a top half finish in the Midland Football League, which begins on August 13.

International clearance has been obtained to sign midfielder Josh Hawker, who has most recently spent a year plying his trade in Australia.

Having missed all of last season through injury, Ricardo Richards has returned to accompany Lei Brown up front and a number of triallists having done sufficiently well to be in contention for a starting place.

There are some notable absentees from last season, which include captain Trevor Edwards, who has signed for Paget Rangers, and goalkeeper Bradley Catlow has been snapped up by new Redditch United manager Darren Byfield.

At the time of going to print league fixtures are still awaited but Highgate will be in competitive action the preceding week on August 6 when they visit Coventry Sphinx in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary round.

The winners of that match will face a home tie in the next round against either Bridgnorth Town or Boldmere St Michaels in the Preliminary round on August 20.

In the FA Vase First Round Qualifying, Highgate have been drawn at home to fellow Premier League team Lye Town on September 10, with the winners travelling to Paget Rangers on September 24.

Highgate have also confirmed they will play three pre-season friendlies at Tythe Barn Lane in the coming weeks starting with Leamington on July 22 (7.30pm), Redditch United on July 26 (7.45pm) and finished with a match against Solihull Moors on July 29 (7.45pm).
