Highgate United maintain their momentum

Solihull Editorial 30th Aug, 2018   0

THE Bank Holiday weekend proved to be a fruitful one for Highgate United as they progressed in the FA Cup and maintained their unbeaten Midland League Premier Division record.

United started with a 3-0 home victory over Leicester Road in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday.

Nick Seabourne, Aaron Brown and Richard Batchelor bagged the goals as Gate pocketed £2,890 as well as being rewarded with a home tie against higher-ranked Stourbridge in the first qualifying round on Saturday, September 8.

Gate then followed up their FA Cup success with a 2-0 victory over Romulus in the league to extend their unbeaten run to six games.

Second half goals from substitute George Curry and Brown proved to be the difference at the Castle Vale Stadium as Gate consolidated fifth place in the league standings.

Up next for Highgate is a home clash against AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday – a side they know well after they dumped the Wolverhampton outfit out of the FA Cup earlier this month.
