FOLLOWING a three-year absence away from the country’s premier knock-out competition, Highgate are making their long-awaited return to FA Cup action this Saturday when they visit Coventry Sphinx.

Gate travel to Sphinx Drive for the in the Extra Preliminary Round of the historic competition knowing the winners fill face either Bridgnorth Town or Boldmere St Michaels at home on August 20.

In the event of a draw. the replay is scheduled to be at Gate’s Tythe Barn Lane ground next Tuesday.

The contest is likely to have added interest should the hosts include former Highgate player Chris Gumery in their line up after the prolific striker recently moved to Sphinx from Coleshill Town.

In their final pre-season friendly on Friday evening, Gate fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw with a Solihull Moors side that featured several first team players.

A cool finish from Nathan Corry five minutes after Moors had taken a 19th minute lead brought the hosts level, a spot kick seeing the visitors ahead at the break. A clinically struck Josh Hawker penalty once again brought parity, but following a penalty miss of their own Moors took the lead for a second time from a resulting cross, Gate then taking advantage of some sloppy defending for a late deserved equaliser by Jak Jeys.
