HOCKEY: A DOMINANT 7-2 victory over local rivals Old Silhillians saw Hampton-in-Arden move to the top of the Midland League Division Two.
Two first half goals from Dafydd Bowles were accompanied by strikes from Chris Popplewell, Jas Ghata-Aura and Jon Coleman as Hampton held a comfortable lead at half-time.
The match turned into a much closer affair after the break as Old Silhillians improved while the home side took their foot off the gas.
Ghata-Aura scored his second of the match and Warrick Laverick got his name on the scoresheet before the visitors scored two late consolation goals.
Hampton travelled the short distance to Stratford on Sunday for an England Hockey Trophy fixture where a hat-trick from young Ethan Hopkins, as well as Jon Coleman’s second of the weekend, meant that Hampton progressed to the third round courtesy of a 4-1 win.
The two teams meet in the league this weekend with Hampton making the journey to Stratford again, no doubt expecting a tougher fixture this time around.
In the ladies section, Hampton’s first team travelled to basement side Warwick and came away with a 3-0 victory to keep the pressure on league leaders the University of Birmingham.
A strong start saw captain Lauren Boon give Hampton the lead after neat work from Erin Killaspy and Hampton had to wait until the second half before Kat Vaughan found the back of the net.
Killaspy sealed the points late on with a smart finish after some great work from Abbie Forsythe.
This weekend sees second-placed Hampton take on league leaders the University of Birmingham in what promises to be an enthralling fixture.
