HOCKEY: HAMPTON made the short journey to Solihull to take on local rivals Old Silhillians, looking for another three points in their promotion push.

The visitors had plenty of possession at the start of the game, but could not work a meaningful effort on goal. Instead, the home side took the early lead after a breakaway goal.

However, the lead was short lived as Jas Ghata-Aura converted from a Dafydd Bowles pass to level the game. Ethan Hopkins scored from a tight angle to give Hampton a 2-1 lead on the stroke of half time.

The pattern continued in the second half; Hampton with plenty of possession but struggling to break down a stubborn Sils defence. A patient passing move led to a Greg Wade to put Hampton 3-1 up, before Jon Coleman’s penalty corner all but sealed the points.

Sils did not give up, and found a second goal to keep the game interesting. However, Hampton saw out the remaining minutes and took the three points.

Top-of-the-table Hampton welcome second placed Stratford on Saturday, before visiting Coalville on Sunday for a rearranged fixture.
