HOCKEY: HAMPTON continued to pile the pressure on Midlands League Two rivals Chesterfield following an 8-4 victory over Coalville Town.

High-tempo passing ensured the home side took an early 3-0 lead with goals coming from Chris Popplewell, Greg Wade and Ethan Hopkins.

However Coalville fought back with two goals of their own shortly before the first break to come to within a goal as the scores were 3-2.

Captain Dafydd Bowles struck an important goal early into the second half to give Hampton a two goal cushion.

Two further goals from Popplewood – to complete his hat-trick – as well as one goal each for Bowles and Hopkins completed the scoring.

A pair of late goals for Coalville provided some consolation for the visitors.

Unbeaten Hampton travel to Boots this weekend, looking to make it five wins on the bounce.

Meanwhile Hampton Ladies earned a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Warwick University Ladies.

Warwick started the game strong and created numerous attacking runs, causing the Hampton defence some problems – resulting in an early goal for the home side.

However after settling into the game, Hampton soon started the dominate and quickly started passing the ball around the pitch – switching attacks from left to right.

A quick ball from midfield found Naomi Ennis who was able to get a shot on goal – which was saved by the Warwick keeper only to fall into the hands of Erin Killaspy who scored.

Later goals from Emma Maslen and Tam Lucas ensured Hampton won the game 3-1 – despite going behind early on.
