CRICKET: A PAIR of new appointments have been announced at Hampton and Solihull cricket club ahead of the new season.
Following glittering careers themselves, Steve Perryman and Phil Oliver will act as the club’s new senior coaches
Steve enjoyed a playing career at Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and Staffordshire, while Phil played for Warwickshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire in minor counties cricket.
Steve subsequently joined the Warwickshire coaching setup under the legendary Bob Woolmer, where he had spells as 2nd XI Coach and 1st XI bowling coach.
Both are current coaches of the ECB Unicorns side (for the UK’s top uncontracted cricketers), and have worked with great success with Sutton Coldfield – overseeing their rise to the Birmingham League with four promotions in five years.
H&S director of cricket Mike Palmer said: “Securing the services of Steve and Phil is a great coup for the club.
“They are two high-calibre coaches that have a track record of developing players and teams at both first-class and club levels.
“We’ve achieved an awful lot in our 11 years of existence and have established ourselves as a Warwickshire League Premier Division club, but we’re hopeful that these appointments can provide us with the platform to push on and challenge for further honours in 2018.”
Indoor nets are already underway for players at H&S ahead of the club fifth successive year in the Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division.
The club’s campaign starts on April 21 at home to Four Oak Saints.
