HOCKEY: TWO early goals set Olton on their way to a comfortable 4-0 home victory over Doncaster.

The hosts were sitting two places above Sunday’s opponents but two goals in two minutes through Oli Ward and Jack Williams set Olton on their way at Grange Road.

It took another 40 odd minutes before there was any more score and then Olton scored another two, a minute apart through Ed James and Joe Paul.

It was a good solid performance that with Bowden drawing meant that Olton move into second place in the Conference North ahead of this weekend’s trip to Oxton in Liverpool.

Straight after the men’s game, a strong mixed side took to the pitch in Round Two of the Trophy competition and dispatched Warwick 6-0.

Ed James bagged a brace and Jacob Fenwick, Holly Percival, Sally Walton and Martin Webb all got on the scoresheet.

There was not such positive news for Olton Ladies who tasted a heavy 6-1 defeat against league leaders Stourport in a one-sided game in the Investec Ladies Conference West.

Olton never really got into their stride and were 3-0 down by half time. The second half did not see much if any improvement and Olton found themselves 5-0 down before Sally Walton pulled one back.

Stourport continued to attack and scored a sixth as the visitors registered their 13th win from 15 games.

Olton remain in third place in the League and travel to Gloucester this week.
