FOOTBALL - Stevens at the double as Solihull Moors come-from-behind to beat Woking

ANDY Whing insists Solihull Moors must ‘kick on’ after coming from behind to beat Woking 2-1 thanks to a brace from Jack Stevens.

Stevens struck either side of half time after Harry Beautyman opened the scoring early on for Woking at Damson Park.

The results mean Solihull have moved into the National League play-off places and Whing feels his side must change their mentality in home matches despite securing back-to-back victories at Damson Park for the first time this season.

Whing said: “We know we can get better, it’s really positive in terms of the result, now we have to kick on, we’re moving in the right direction.

“Regardless of performance, I could lament the performance, I thought we were really poor in areas.

“They’re a fantastic group, I really mean that, they’re a good set of lads, they work extremely hard.

“Nothing is really going to change around here in terms of noise so our approach has to be a little bit different.

“We have that mentality where we’re waiting for something to happen at home, our mentality has to change.

“I’ve learnt a lot in terms of why we might get those performances but the group are brilliant.”

Woking broke the deadlock after just eight minutes when Harry Beautyman finished from six-yards out following a set-piece.

The visitors had a chance to double their lead just past the half-hour mark when Alex Whitmore handled in the box only for Laurie Walker to save Cian Harries’ tame penalty.

Woking substitute Charley Kendall then saw red in a bizarre incident after appearing to interfere with play while warming-up close to the touchline.

Moors equalised with a penalty of their own two minutes before half time after Jack Stevens drew a foul in the box and picked himself up to score from the spot.

And the home side completed the turnaround on 82 minutes as Stevens fired a first time shot into the net from eight-yards out from Jamey Osborne’s pass.

Solihull travel to Gateshead on Saturday, October 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Gateshead International Stadium.
