SOLIHULL Moors played out a goalless draw with Sutton United in the club’s first away game of the season.

Moors remain winless after two matches this season following a second successive draw at Gander Green Lane.

The result means Solihull sit 14th in the National League table.

Sutton went close on 14 minutes when Alex Woodyard’s powerful effort from distance went narrowly over the crossbar.

And the home side tried their luck from distance again soon after as Laurie Walker held Lewis Simper’s shot.

Sutton hit the woodwork on 27 minutes as Liam Vincent’s cross from the left struck the outside of the left-hand post and bounced to safety.

After the break, Walker produced a superb reaction save as he tipped Tyler French’s miscued header onto the post to prevent the former Sutton man from scoring an own goal.

The hosts remained on top as Will Tizzard headed a corner from the left narrowly over the crossbar.

Solihull’s first real chance of the game came on 53 minutes as Alex Whitmore saw his header cleared off the line by Ashley Nadesan.

And Oliver Tipton then saw his close-range effort blocked behind after Sutton failed to deal with a long throw from the left.

Sutton spurned a glorious chance to take the lead on 71 minutes as Brandon Njoku curled a shot wide of the target following a two-on-one break.

The hosts went close in the final few minutes when Jack Wadham lashed a shot inches past the post from 15-yards out.

Walker then held Njoku’s effort as the game ended all square.

Solihull are next in action against Carlisle United on Tuesday, August 19 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Brunton Park.
