JOE Sbarra’s goal helped Solihull Moors end their 10-game winless run following a 1-0 home victory against Altrincham.

Sbarra scored the game’s only goal after just 10 minutes at Damson Park as Solihull secured a first league win since January.

The result means Moors sit 13th in the National League table with Solihull now 10 points clear of the relegation zone with six games left to play.

Solihull went close moments before the goal as Altrincham goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson held Ben Worman’s low effort from 20-yards out.

However, Moors took the lead when Sbarra placed a first time effort into the bottom right corner from Isaac Moore’s through ball.

Altrincham responded with a chance of their own as Eddy Jones ran with the ball for some distance as Laurie Walker pushed the full-back’s powerful effort to safety.

And Walker then sprung low to his left to keep out Liam Humbles’ low strike from 20-yards out after the midfielder charged towards the Solihull box.

The teams continued to trade chances as Tobi Sho-Silva failed to properly connect with a cross while Hutchinson held Jamey Osborne’s tame strike.

Moors went close shortly after the break when Hutchinson smothers Sho-Silva’s effort before Sbarra dragged his follow-up attempt wide.

The visitors almost drew level just before the hour mark as Walker tipped Humbles’ shot behind diving low to his right.

And Walker pushed a loose ball to safety late on after Charlie Kirk delivered a dangerous free-kick into the box from the right.

Solihull are next in action against Tamworth on Friday, April 3 with kick-off at 3pm at the Lamb Ground.
