SOLIHULL Moors have confirmed the departure of fan favourite James Clarke who has completed a move to National League rivals Boreham Wood.
Clarke made more than 200 appearances for Moors following his arrival at Damson Park on a permanent basis in March 2022 after an initial loan spell.
The defender featured for the club in two Promotion Finals finals at Wembley and also the FA Trophy final.
However, Clarke has now departed Moors for Boreham Wood with the latter side likely to secure a play-off spot this season.
Clarke said: “Where do I start? Solihull has been part of my life for the last four and a half years and it has shaped me into the person I am today and I have so much admiration for everyone at the club.
“All the fans and everyone have made me and my family so welcome and I can only thank every single person from the bottom of my heart.
“I have enjoyed every single second of it.
“We’ve been so close on so many occasions to living the dream and making it happen and I have no doubt that the Moors will get promoted.
“Everyone I’ve played with at Solihull has been a great friend and every single challenge we’ve ever been through, we’ve been through together.
“I hope that everyone knows that I’ve always given 100 per cent no matter what.
“A massive thank you to the fans, the staff and most of all the players that I’ve had over the last four and a half years.”
Moors chairman, Darryl Eales added: “Football is all about relationships. The downside of football is its transient nature.
“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with James. He is a consummate professional and an outstanding human being.
“His dedication to the Moors on and off the pitch has been exemplary.
“James and the whole family will be sadly missed, but we wish him every success in the future. He will always be welcome.”
Solihull boss, Chris Millington said: “I was first aware of Clarkey as an opposition player and admired him as a player and his character.
“Working with him, I have grown in admiration for him as a professional. His work ethic and professionalism are second to none.
“I know what a tough decision this was for him because of his love for the Moors, but I also recognise he is ambitious and deserves to be fighting for promotion.
“We are certainly disappointed his time at Moors has come to an end but we wish Clarkey the best.
“We are now working to develop and recruit the next generation of Moors favourites of the calibre of Clarkey.”
