SOLIHULL Moors beat Burnley under-21s 5-4 on penalties to claim their first win in the National League Cup.
The game ended goalless after 90 minutes as Szhem Whyte-Hall scored the winning penalty after Burnley’s Oliver Pimlott blazed his effort over the crossbar at Damson Park.
The victory means caretaker boss James Quinn is now unbeaten in three matches at the helm since returning to the club to replace former Moors boss Matt Taylor.
Solihull named a much-changed side for the cup clash which saw Billy Corns make his senior debut for Moors from the bench.
Chances remained at a premium throughout with neither side able to break the deadlock after 90 minutes.
Sam Bowen, Olly Tipton, Callum McFarlane and Louis Jackson all scored from the spot for Moors.
And Joe Bevan, Ellis Clark, Murray Campbell and Brandon Pouani all found the net from 12-yards for Burnley with the first eight spot kicks of the shootout perfect.
However, Pimlott fired his penalty over the bar which allowed Whyte-Hall the chance to win the game and the Moors player duly converted from the spot.
Solihull travel to York City on Saturday, September 20 with kick-off at 3pm at LNER Community Stadium.
