FOOTBALL - Moors Women return to winning ways against Long Eaton United

BECKY Knight scored twice as Solihull Moors Women returned to winning ways with a 3-0 home win against Long Eaton United.

Knight struck twice for Moors whilst Tiana Russell-Cartwright was also on target before half time as Solihull eased to victory at Grange Park.

The result means Moors sit fourth in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands table.

Long Eaton have won just one league game all season and threatened on a couple of occasions before Knight went close for Moors when she tried to prod home Jess Howard’s cross.

However, Knight was not to be denied a second time as the striker opened the scoring on 22 minutes when she produced a superb leap to glance Cheyanne Jarvis’s cross into the bottom left corner.

And Moors almost doubled their lead with another header when Abby Jackson nodded a corner inches over the crossbar.

Knight extended Solihull’s lead on 33 minutes when she powered home a header from six yards out after she was left unmarked to turn home Eva Rogers cross from the right.

And Moors put the game to bed before half time when Russell-Cartwright hit a cushioned volley into the bottom corner from another Rogers cross from the right to put Solihull three goals to the good at the break.

Moors striker Knight almost made it a hat-trick of headed goals in the second period when she nodded narrowly over the top before substitute Lyndsey Ross-Baker had an effort cleared off the line.

Solihull are next in action at home to Sporting Khalsa on Sunday, January 22 with kick-off at 2pm.
