ANDY Whing praised his side’s reaction after Solihull Moors secured a morale-boosting 2-1 victory against Aldershot Town.
A late goal from Jack Stevens brought an end to Solihull’s four-game losing run in all competitions after Conor Wilkinson opened the scoring at Damson Park.
The result leaves Moors one point outside of the National League play-off places and Whing insists his side will compete at the top end of the table if the bulk of his squad stays fit.
Whing said: “Regardless of the performance, it was all about the result, I didn’t think it was coming.
“We were brilliant in the first half, we had another gear, we were on the front foot and had all the possession and all the chances.
“We just didn’t come out in the second half, they came out and won the first and second balls, the goal was disappointing.
“We kept going, because of the way things have been going, we lacked a little bit of confidence and belief in the second half.
“I’m just delighted for the lads, I dragged them in on their day off, I thought it was needed after the last few performances.
“They’ve given a reaction, it wasn’t the prettiest performance in the world but they kept going and we got the three points.
“If we keep picking up points, we’re not a million miles away, we’ve had a lot of injuries.
“If we can keep as many of our strongest players fit, we’ll be right up there, we just have to ride these spells.”
Solihull broke the deadlock after just 10 minutes when Wilkinson headed in John Bostock’s set-piece from the right from close range.
However, Aldershot drew level on 56 minutes as Jack Barham headed in at the back post after Moors failed to deal with an initial cross from the left.
Moors won the game in style one minute from time when Stevens curled a sensational effort into the top right corner from 25-yards out.
Solihull travel to Maidenhead United on Saturday, December 14 with kick-off at 3pm at York Road.
