KNOWLE Ladies secured their seventh straight win in the league with a hard-fought 4-2 victory against Worcester City to maintain their perfect start to the season.

Kate Fleming’s first two goals of the season helped Knowle to victory with Demi Rolph and substitute Alana White also on target.

The result means Knowle lead Coventry Sphinx Ladies by six points at the top of the West Midlands Regional Women’s Football League Division One South table although their closest challengers have two games in hand.

Knowle made a fast start as Rolph saw a goal ruled out for a high boot and Natalie Gibson went close with a long range effort.

And the home side eventually broke the deadlock when Fleming’s deft header found the net from Morgan Betteridge’s corner.

Worcester deservedly drew level through Georgia Marrett’s fine equaliser as she skipped past three players before firing beyond Katy Smirthwaite in the Knowle goal.

Knowle had chances to regain the lead before the break with Jess Barlow and Jess Holland both denied by the visiting goalkeeper.

However, Knowle retook the lead early in the second period as Fleming superbly volleyed home Gibson’s free kick to score her second goal of the afternoon.

The away side equalised for a second time when Nia Hillyard found the net after Smirthwaite’s poor clearance went straight to the feet of Karli Smith who saw her initial attempt blocked.

Knowle almost went ahead for a third time when Barlow’s shot cannoned back off the crossbar before Rolph headed home unmarked from Emma Shaw’s cross to put the home side back in the driving seat.

And the game was made safe when substitutes Camile Abbotts and White combined as the latter slotted a calm finish past the keeper to score her first goal for the club.
