FOOTBALL - Knowle hold unbeaten Cadbury Athletic to draw

TOM Cullen’s second-half strike rescued a point for Knowle against 10-man Cadbury Athletic in a high stakes clash in Division Two of the Midland Football League.

Cullen equalised for the Robins when he turned home a cross from the left on 75 minutes – with the hosts unable to find a winner despite their numerical advantage.

Cadbury had taken the lead on 32 minutes through Thomas Craine only for the goalscorer to be sent off for a second bookable offence just shy of thr hour mark.

The draw means Knowle sit third in Division Two of the Midland Football League, three points off the top with a game in-hand on league leaders Fairfield Villa.

Knowle lost captain Lewis Cosgrove to injury during the warm-up with George Curry and Dylon Bennett already ruled out for Clive Seeley’s side.

Despite this setback, the home side dominated the opening half an hour but were made to pay for their missed chances when Cadbury took the lead.

The referee allowed play to continue after a contentious tackle in midfield before a perfect cross from the right set-up Craine to tap home.

That goal set the game alight as Cadbury hit the inside of the post before Knowle went up the other end and rattled the crossbar through Cullen.

And after Craine’s dismissal on 58 minutes – Knowle would make their pressure count.

Cullen found the net with 15 minutes left to play when he finished a left-wing cross to bring the scores level.

Cadbury saw out the game impressively despite being a man down as Knowle failed to find a winning goal at the Draintech Community Ground.

Knowle entertain Boldmere Sports & Social Falcons in their next outing with kick-off at 3pm on Saturday, October 9.
