FOOTBALL - James Quinn praises 'fighting' Solihull Moors after Morecambe draw

JAMES Quinn praised Solihull Moors ‘fighting’ spirit following a breathless 4-4 draw against bottom club Morecambe.

Moors twice took the lead and twice came from behind to earn a point in a frenetic contest at Damson Park.

And while Moors caretaker boss Quinn felt his side should have scored more goals, he praised the club’s never-say-die attitude.

Quinn said: “It was a great game to watch, for the fans and for neutrals, but if you were on either set of staff, it’s not exactly the game you want.

“It turned into a bit of a basketball game. It was they attacked, we attacked, they attacked, we attacked, up until about the last 10 minutes, where we really got a lot of possession in their final third.

“I think we probably had more chances in this game than we’ve ever had at the club in my time and we scored four of them and you know I’m still not happy with that – we should have had seven or eight.

“But on the other side of it as well, they got four and I think they [Morecambe] can turn around and say they could have had more.

“I’m really pleased with the attitude of the lads when they went behind to keep going and keep fighting and to keep running.

“They showed exceptional energy and they never gave up – and again, that’s another side of them that I’m seeing of them.

“I saw the fighting side of them last week and I’m seeing this this week. We’ll take a point and move on to next week.”

The home side almost snatched the points late on only for Szhem Whyte-Hall to see his effort ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper.

However, Quinn felt Whyte-Hall did not make any contact with Morecambe goalkeeper Archie Mair and the goal should have stood.

Quinn added: “I mean, I didn’t see an offence.

“I saw the keeper go for the ball, miss it and the ball went in.

“It was never a free kick and I think their staff will probably agree with that as well.

“I didn’t even think that there was any contact with the keeper.”
