EARLSWOOD Town started life under a new manager with a rampant 8-0 victory against Coventry Alvis to reach the semi-finals of the Coventry Charity Football Cup.

In new manager Jason Pyott’s first game in charge, the Earls ran riot at The Pavilions, scoring four goals in either half.

Debutant Elliot Edwards netted twice with John Palmer, Andy Matthews, Luke Woodward, Harry Street, Joshua Hardwood and Qadeer Parvaiz all on target.

Playing their first game since December 28, the Earls more than made up for lost time in their first fixture of the New Year.

The Earls made the perfect start when Palmer’s driven effort from 25-yards out crept into the bottom corner.

And Earlswood struck again soon after as Edwards forced a shot into the net despite the best efforts of Alvis defender Dylan Hayes.

The home side extended their lead when Matthews finished from a tight angle after seeing his initial effort kept out.

And the Earls all but sealed their place in the semi-finals before the break as Woodward leapt highest to direct a header into the top right corner from Edwards’ free-kick.

Earlswood picked up where they left off after the break as Matthews squared the ball across the box to Edwards who tapped into an empty net to score his second of the game.

Coventry then had James Hughes sent off for dissent on an afternoon to forget for the visitors.

And the Earls quickly made the most of the extra man when Edwards teed up Street at the far post.

Substitute Harwood then made an instant impact with a finish from close range to score his side’s seventh goal of the game.

And fellow substitute Parvaiz completed the scoring with a shot which crept under the Coventry goalkeeper.

Earlswood are next in action against Knowle on Saturday, January 25 with kick-off at 2pm at the Draintech Community Stadium.
