EARLSWOOD Town were denied victory late on in a 2-2 draw at Coventry Alvis despite goals from Daniel Elwell and Connor Doyle.

The Earls were on course to take all three points after Elwell and Doyle turned the game in the visitors favour only for Jack Aujla to level at the death after Elliot Edwards opened the scoring at Alvis Sports and Social Club.

And the result means Earlswood sit fifth in the Midland Football League Division Two table, two points behind leaders Knowle.

Coventry took the lead inside the first minute when Edwards found the net with a header from close range at the back post from Dave Freeman’s cross.

However, the Earls drew level from the penalty spot on 11 minutes as Elwell picked out the bottom right corner after a handball in the box.

Earls goalkeeper Ethan Pheasey then made a superb save to palm Edwards’ shot onto the crossbar and keep the scores level at the break.

Pheasey made another acrobatic stop to deny Freeman at the start of the second half, tipping the shot onto the bar for a second time with the ball destined for the top left corner.

And Earlswood completed the turnaround on 75 minutes when Doyle’s powerful shot beat the Alvis goalkeeper via the aid of the post after good work from Archie Spittle-McGuire.

However, Coventry won a penalty in the closing stages, following a late challenge in the box, as Pheasey saved Aujla’s spot kick only for the latter to tap home the rebound.

Earlswood are next in action at home to Knowle on Saturday, September 23 with kick-off at 3pm at The Pavilions.
