FOOTBALL - Earlswood Town denied point at the death against Alcester

EARLSWOOD TOWN suffered more injury-time heartbreak as Connor Nowaczyk’s first goal for the club proved in vain in a 2-1 defeat against Alcester Town.

Nowaczyk had equalised for the Earls after Karl Walker put Alcester ahead only for Dan Elwell to pop up with a 92nd minute winner at Stratford Road.

The result means Earlswood sit 10th in the Midland Football League Division Two table, six points clear of safety albeit having played more games than most of the teams around them.

Both teams struggled to create chances in blustery conditions during a testing opening 45 minutes with Leadun Dunlevy almost making the breakthrough following some good link up play.

At the other end, Earlswood goalkeeper Dan Farr tipped away Drew Ricketts’ header as they game looked set to finish in a stalemate.

However, the game came to life in the final 15 minutes when substitute Walker fired home a stunning volley from Matt Bailey’s delivery to put Alcester ahead.

And the Earls thought they had rescued a point when Nowaczyk capitalised at the far post on 86 minutes to turn home John Palmer’s cross from the left.

Yet, there was to be a final twist in stoppage time when Elwell finished following a late Alcester counter attack despite calls for a foul on player-manager Tom Reynolds in the build up.

Earlswood are next at home to tenants Barnt Green Spartak on Saturday, March 5 with kick-off at 3pm at The Pavilions.
