FOOTBALL - Earlswood five unbeaten after Boldmere victory

EARLSWOOD Town stretched their unbeaten run to five matches with a 4-2 win against Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons to maintain their perfect home record.

Despite the game being scoreless at the break, second-half goals from Ryan Froggatt, Tom Kinsey, Louis Bridges and Andy Matthews secured all three points for the Earls at The Pavilions.

The result means Earlswood are now fifth in the Midland Football League Division Two table and have won all three of their home matches this term.

Boldmere dominated the opening quarter before Bridges spurned the Earls’ best chance of the first half when he curled narrowly over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

Earls goalkeeper Alistair Lewis made a pair of strong saves towards the end of the opening period with Boldmere well on top before the break.

However, Earlswood rode their luck and upped their game after the break to take a 48th minute lead when Froggatt hammered home from close range from Kinsey’s pass.

And the Earls were two goals to the good on 55 minutes when Kinsey headed home from a corner.

The striker then set up Bridges to treble the home side’s lead as he selflessly squared for the former to tap home and grab his second assist of the game.

Boldmere reduced the deficit when Aaron O’Neill pulled a goal back with a sweet strike from close range.

And they found a second on 85 minutes to set up a tense finish after a scramble in the box led to Froggatt inadvertently putting through his own net.

However, substitute Matthews made sure of the victory at the death when he helped Bridges’s header on its way into the back of the net following a rapid counter attack.

Earlswood are next in action away at newly-promoted AFC Coventry Rangers on Saturday, September 10 with kick-off at 3pm at Coventry Technical Rugby Club.
